Langdon Lantern Pendant Large Brass

The Langdon Lantern Pendant is a substantial open-frame fitting in solid brass, its glass panels set within a lantern silhouette that owes more to carriage lamps and hallway fittings of an older kind than to anything fashionable. It belongs above a stairwell, in a double-height hall, or wherever a home needs a fitting with genuine architectural weight. At 61cm tall, it has the scale to hold a double-height space without disappearing into it.

The brass frame catches and holds the light rather than merely reflecting it, and the open glass panels let it spill outward in every direction, softening as it falls across cornicing, brick, or timber. Seen from below on the stair, the lantern reads as a piece of furniture for the room as much as a light source.

It takes a single dimmable E27 lamp (not included), and works well on a dimmer circuit where the fitting allows for a softer evening mood. Rated IP20, it's intended for dry indoor spaces such as halls and stairwells rather than anywhere exposed to damp. It's Class I, so it requires an earthed connection, and given its weight and scale, we'd recommend installation by a qualified electrician, with a ceiling fixing checked for load before the fitting goes up.

Made by Soho Lighting and finished in brass throughout. At 9.5kg, it's not a light fitting to hang on a whim — the ceiling point needs to be sound, and the chain, adjustable up to 2650mm overall, gives enough latitude to set the drop properly for a genuinely tall space rather than a modest one.
