D'Arblay Brass Rise and Fall Adjustable Pendant

The D'Arblay Rise and Fall is a pendant built around movement as much as material — a brass fitting engineered to drop low over a dining table or kitchen island, then rise again when the room needs to breathe. It suits spaces where the same table serves different purposes through the day, from a quiet supper for two to a gathering that needs the room opened back up.

The finish is antique brass, warm and already softened rather than bright, and it hangs on a fabric-covered twisted cable — the kind of detail that reads as period rather than reproduction. With an open lampholder and no shade to interrupt it, the bulb itself becomes part of the fitting's presence. Lowered close to a table, the light gathers and warms; raised, it steps back and lets the room take over.

It takes a single E27 Edison screw bulb (not included), left exposed by the open lampholder, so the choice of lamp — filament, tinted or clear — shapes the character of the light as much as the fitting does. Rated IP20, for dry interior locations only.

The rise-and-fall mechanism adjusts the drop by hand to suit the table or surface beneath it, so it is worth hanging where the ceiling height allows genuine variation — the mechanism is the point of the piece. As with any hardwired pendant, we'd recommend installation by a qualified electrician. Made by Soho Lighting in a single antique brass finish. Full dimensions are available on request.
